Veteran’s Annual Dinner

The Veterans’ Annual Dinner was a great success and well supported by the membership. We were delighted to be joined for the evening by Club Captain - Nigel Byham, Club Professional – Roly Hitchcock and Club Secretary – Adrian Bullock.

After an excellent meal prepared and served to us in the Devora Suite Steve Ling, Immediate Past Captain took the annual opportunity of challenging the credentials of the current Vets Captain to undertake the role in an extremely humorous manner which, fortunately, contained no jokes – Steve achieved an outstanding reputation during his year as Vets Captain of managing to murder even the very best of jokes.

In response David Ferdinand, Vets Captain, managed to have a fun poke at many of the members present but leaving no one in doubt of his obvious pride in the section and the considerable part that the members play in the life of Stoke By Nayland Golf Club.

The formal part of the evening drew to a conclusion with Nigel Byham, Club Captain, thanking all Vet members for the very active part that they play supporting the club in so many ways.

A caption competition arranged during the evening proved to be a popular addition; this was won by Steve Wright – only because his was the only entrant that the judges could manage to read!

"Of course I can use the ladies loo, I'm pregnant arn't I?"

It was clear from talk on the evening and throughout the club house the following morning that this proved to be an extremely successful evening.

Many thanks to Alan Line for the hard work, and arm twisting, that he put into the evening and to Robin Tyrell and Lionel Hatch who managed to twist arms even further selling draw tickets.
