Suffolk v Essex - August 2011 - 2nd Leg
The first leg finished 22-13 to Suffolk, so it wasn’t too surprising that the entries from the Essex contingent were thin on the ground for the second leg – no heart for the fight, eh? Anyway, the Suffolk captain kindly despatched a number of his better troops to the Essex camp to give them a fighting chance, but to no avail.
The result on the day was 16-11 to Suffolk, making an aggregate score of 38-24.
With a couple of exceptions, one on each side, the games were pretty even, and the golf was followed by an excellent Ham, Egg & Chips and a load of banter, setting the seal on a very pleasurable day.
The Suffolk Captain Mike Aldir was not fit for the fight on the day, but turned up with a strapped arm to receive the trophy and hand out the prized golf ball to the 18 members of the winning team.
This was a rare victory for Suffolk and we can be sure that Essex will pull out all the stops to seize back the trophy next year, when the event will be moved to two dates in February and March.
