It was with renewed enthusiasm that the mighty men of SBN took to the fairways at Hintlesham on a lovely, but quite windy, May day.
After a run of defeats Captain Steve Ling, partnered by Alan Hands, took the fight to the opposition and returned to the clubhouse victors by 3 and 2 after “a fine tussle”
Other results did not all go the same way although victories by Malcolm Jones and John Lawlor (returning an astonishing net 58) together with John Simpson and John Button who squeezed past their opponents by one hole kept the captains optimism alive until late results were returned.
The strong pairing of Roger Fleuty and Alan Line suffered with Alan quoting that he was “unable to hit a cows nether regions with a banjo all day” – or words to that effect!
An equally string pair of Roger Davies and Barry Jewitt snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory letting slip a 4 hole lead.
The match was lost 4 ½ to 3 ½ .
All players returned to the clubhouse for an excellent lunch.
Once again a match played in the very best of spirits and a great days golf.
