Inter Club Match v Braintree Home July 2010

The first problem for the teams today was to find the Gainsborough Room for Coffee.

Things were hectic with the Pro/Am tournament using the Gainsborough Course making the Clubhouse very busy.

Nevertheless, everyone was ready on time, and all players passed the first tee within are allotted time slot.

We wanted to make a good showing today as we had been soundly beaten at Stistead.

The Captain with Mike Hartley should have got us off to a good start, but a poor finish on the 18th allowed the visitors to claim a half.

With wins coming in from Tony Smith / John King and John Williams / Tony Osborne, hopes were raised.

It seemed a long time before any other groups emerged from the Changing Rooms, and it soon became clear why!

Losses from Graham Head / John Russell, Roy Sims / Terry Mitchell, Keith Prichard / Ed Daniels and Rod Harman / Tom Mackinlay sealed our fate.

The only victory from the last five groups was from John Phillips / Bill Cooper.

A 3 ½ - 4 ½  defeat meant that we had lost our first match at home this season.

Braintree even won the nearest the pin competition on the 13th hole.
