Committee Golf Day - Clacton - 10th November 2011

As members will know our club is host to next year's Veterans' Inter-Club Tournament. The Tournament was held at Clacton Golf Club last year and their Committee invited us to a friendly match and lunch after to offer their help and advice. As for the match, well, we lost 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 but I put that down to massive home advantage as we started in the sea mist and ended in the real soup. There were moments however, Bob Filer( our secret sub) and Nigel Grundy 3 down with 3 to play, halve their match after Bob had eagled a par 5 and Vice Captain Line making a birdie which the best part of Clacton heard. Martin Brown and substitute Tony Smith won, your Captain and Vice Captain narrowly lost in a rearguard action which would have been "mentioned in despatches" had it been war and Hon Sec and Peter Jay won 2 and 1, comfortably I was told after by Peter!

Our hosts captained by John Willson were generous to a tee, though John couldn't tell a joke to save his life. He is actually worse than our Past Captain Steve Ling. Much to do before 16th July next when we host the event but put it in the diary as we shall need some assistance with course marshalling, helpers etc,.A Tournament Committee is in embryo form and you will be kept in touch with their progress.

I shall suggest to our Committee that we extend a return match and lunch and perhaps some Vets might wish to play rather than it being all Committee.

Yours in the car park,

Captain Ferdinand.

PS Didn't slice it into the car park at the Main Captain's Drive In. Hooked it into the trees on the left instead.
